نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ ﴿60﴾
We have decreed death to you all, and We are not outstripped,
نَحْنُ naḥnu We
قَدَّرْنَا qaddarnā [We] have decreed
بَيْنَكُمُ baynakumu among you
ٱلْمَوْتَ l-mawta the death
وَمَا wamā and not
نَحْنُ naḥnu We
بِمَسْبُوقِينَ bimasbūqīna (are) outrun

60-1 That is, the time of death for every person has been fixed, which no one can exceed. Thus, some die in childhood, some in youth, and some in old age.

60-2 Or, [We] are not overpowered and helpless, rather [We] are capable.
