إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ ﴿34﴾
Verily, We sent against them a violent storm of stones (which destroyed them all), except the family of Lût (Lot), them We saved in the last hour of the night,
إِنَّآ innā Indeed, We
أَرْسَلْنَا arsalnā [We] sent
عَلَيْهِمْ ʿalayhim upon them
حَاصِبًا ḥāṣiban a storm of stones
إِلَّآ illā except
ءَالَ āla (the) family
لُوطٍۢ ۖ lūṭin (of) Lut
نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم najjaynāhum We saved them
بِسَحَرٍۢ bisaḥarin by dawn

34. 1. That is, such a wind was sent which pelted them with stones, that is, their towns were turned upside down upon them, in such a way that the upper part became the lower and the lower part became the upper. After that, a rain of baked clay stones was sent upon them, as has been detailed in Surah Hud and elsewhere.
