بَلْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِىٓ أَمْرٍ مَّرِيجٍ ﴿5﴾
Nay, but they have denied the truth (this Qur’ân) when it has come to them, so they are in a confused state (cannot differentiate between right and wrong).
بَلْ bal Nay
كَذَّبُوا۟ kadhabū they denied
بِٱلْحَقِّ bil-ḥaqi the truth
لَمَّا lammā when
جَآءَهُمْ jāahum it came (to) them
فَهُمْ fahum so they
فِىٓ (are) in
أَمْرٍۢ amrin a state
مَّرِيجٍ marījin confused

5. 1. That is, such a matter which has become doubtful to them, by which they have fallen into a confusion; sometimes they call him a magician, sometimes a poet, and sometimes a foreteller of the unseen.
