۞ قَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَآ أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍ ﴿27﴾
His companion (Satan - devil)] will say: "Our Lord! I did not push him to transgression, (in disbelief, oppression, and evil deeds) but he was himself in error far astray."
۞ قَالَ qāla Will say
قَرِينُهُۥ qarīnuhu his companion
رَبَّنَا rabbanā Our Lord
مَآ not
أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ aṭghaytuhu I made him transgress
وَلَـٰكِن walākin but
كَانَ kāna he was
فِى in
ضَلَـٰلٍۭ ḍalālin error
بَعِيدٍۢ baʿīdin far

27. 1. That is why he immediately accepted my word; if he had been your sincere servant, he would not have fallen for my deception. Here, "qarin" refers to Satan.
