"And why should we not believe in Allâh and in that which has come to us of the truth (Islâmic Monotheism)? And we wish that our Lord will admit us (in Paradise on the Day of Resurrection) along with the righteous people (Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and his Companions رضي الله عنهم)."

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

84. 1. In Habasha, where Muslims migrated twice during the Makkan period. The government was under Ashamah Najashi, it was a Christian kingdom. These verses were revealed about the Christians living in Habasha. However, according to narrations, the Prophet ﷺ sent Hazrat Amr bin Umayyah Zamri ؓ to Najashi with his letter, which he went and recited. Upon hearing the letter, Najashi called the emigrants present in Habasha and Hazrat Ja'far bin Abi Talib to him, and also gathered his scholars and worshippers and ascetics. Then he ordered Hazrat Ja'far to recite the Quran. Hazrat Ja'far recited Surah Maryam, in which the miraculous birth of Hazrat Isa ؑ and his servitude and messengership are mentioned. Upon hearing this, they were greatly affected and tears flowed from their eyes and they embraced faith. Some say that Najashi sent some of his scholars to the Prophet ﷺ, and when he ﷺ recited the Quran to them, tears involuntarily flowed from their eyes and they embraced faith (Fath al-Qadeer). In these verses, the effect that the Quran had on them is depicted and their embracing of faith is mentioned. In the Noble Quran, at some other places, such Christians are also mentioned, for example: (وَإِنَّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَمَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ خَاشِعِينَ لِلَّهِ) (Surah Aal-e-Imran) Certainly, among the People of the Book are those who believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to you and what has been revealed to them, and they humble themselves before Allah, and other such verses. And in the hadith, it is mentioned that when the news of Najashi's death reached the Prophet ﷺ, he said to the companions ؓ that your brother in Habasha has passed away, perform his funeral prayer. Thus, in a desert, the Prophet ﷺ performed his funeral prayer in absentia (Sahih Bukhari, Manaqib al-Ansar, Kitab al-Jana'iz. Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Jana'iz). In another hadith, regarding such People of the Book who believed in the Prophethood of the Prophet ﷺ, it is stated that they will receive double the reward (Bukhari, Kitab al-Ilm and Kitab al-Nikah).
