تَرَىٰ كَثِيرًا مِّنْهُمْ يَتَوَلَّوْنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ لَبِئْسَ مَا قَدَّمَتْ لَهُمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ أَن سَخِطَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَفِى ٱلْعَذَابِ هُمْ خَـٰلِدُونَ ﴿80﴾
You see many of them taking the disbelievers as their Auliyâ’ (protectors and helpers). Evil indeed is that which their ownselves have sent forward before them; for that (reason) Allâh’s Wrath fell upon them, and in torment they will abide.
تَرَىٰ tarā You see
كَثِيرًۭا kathīran many
مِّنْهُمْ min'hum of them
يَتَوَلَّوْنَ yatawallawna taking as allies
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who
كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ kafarū disbelieved
لَبِئْسَ labi'sa Surely evil
مَا (is) what
قَدَّمَتْ qaddamat sent forth
لَهُمْ lahum for them
أَنفُسُهُمْ anfusuhum their souls
أَن an that
سَخِطَ sakhiṭa became angry
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah
عَلَيْهِمْ ʿalayhim with them
وَفِى wafī and in
ٱلْعَذَابِ l-ʿadhābi the punishment
هُمْ hum they
خَـٰلِدُونَ khālidūna (will) abide forever

80. 1. This is the result of friendly relations with the disbelievers, that Allah became displeased with them, and the consequence of this displeasure is the eternal punishment of Hell.
