قُلْ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا ۚ وَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ﴿76﴾
Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to mankind): "How do you worship besides Allâh something which has no power either to harm or benefit you? But it is Allâh Who is the All-Hearer, All-Knower."
قُلْ qul Say
أَتَعْبُدُونَ ataʿbudūna Do you worship
مِن min from
دُونِ dūni besides
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah
مَا what
لَا not
يَمْلِكُ yamliku has power
لَكُمْ lakum to (cause) you
ضَرًّۭا ḍarran any harm
وَلَا walā and not
نَفْعًۭا ۚ nafʿan any benefit
وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu while Allah
هُوَ huwa He
ٱلسَّمِيعُ l-samīʿu (is) the All-Hearing
ٱلْعَلِيمُ l-ʿalīmu the All-Knowing

76. 1. This explains the lack of understanding of the polytheists, that they have taken as deities those who can neither benefit anyone nor harm anyone. In fact, far from causing harm, they do not even have the power to hear anyone or to know anyone's condition. This power belongs only to Allah. Therefore, only He is the fulfiller of needs and remover of difficulties.
