O you who believe! Whoever from among you turns back from his religion (Islâm), Allâh will bring a people whom He will love and they will love Him; humble towards the believers, stern towards the disbelievers, fighting in the Way of Allâh, and never fear of the blame of the blamers. That is the Grace of Allâh which He bestows on whom He wills. And Allâh is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

54. 1 Allah, according to His knowledge, said this, the event of which occurred immediately after the passing of the Prophet ﷺ. The honor of ending this fitnah of apostasy was granted to Abu Bakr Siddiq ؓ and his companions.

54. 2 Four prominent qualities of the people whom Allah will raise against the apostates are being mentioned: 1. Loving Allah and being beloved by Him, 2. Being gentle with the believers and stern against the disbelievers, 3. Striving in the way of Allah, 4. And not fearing the blame of any blamer regarding Allah. The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them all, were the perfect manifestation of these qualities and virtues; thus, Allah honored them with happiness in this world and the Hereafter and granted them the certificate of His pleasure in this very world.

54. 3 This is the fourth quality of those believers. That is, in obedience and submission to Allah, they do not care about the blame of any blamer. This is a very important quality. In a society where evils become widespread, steadfastness in goodness and obedience to Allah’s commands is not possible without this quality. Otherwise, there are many people who wish to save themselves from evil, disobedience to Allah, and social corruption, but do not find the courage within themselves to face the blamers. That is why Allah further said that those who attain these mentioned qualities, this is Allah’s special favor upon them.
