وَقَفَّيْنَا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِم بِعِيسَى ٱبْنِ مَرْيَمَ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلْإِنجِيلَ فِيهِ هُدًى وَنُورٌ وَمُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ وَهُدًى وَمَوْعِظَةً لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ﴿46﴾
And in their footsteps, We sent ‘Îsâ (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), confirming the Taurât (Torah) that had come before him, and We gave him the Injeel (Gospel), in which was guidance and light and confirmation of the Taurât (Torah) that had come before it, a guidance and an admonition for Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - See V.2:2).
وَقَفَّيْنَا waqaffaynā And We sent
عَلَىٰٓ ʿalā on
ءَاثَـٰرِهِم āthārihim their footsteps
بِعِيسَى biʿīsā Isa
ٱبْنِ ib'ni son
مَرْيَمَ maryama (of) Maryam
مُصَدِّقًۭا muṣaddiqan confirming
لِّمَا limā what
بَيْنَ bayna (was) between
يَدَيْهِ yadayhi his hands
مِنَ mina of
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ ۖ l-tawrāti the Taurat
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ waātaynāhu and We gave him
ٱلْإِنجِيلَ l-injīla the Injeel
فِيهِ fīhi in it
هُدًۭى hudan (was) Guidance
وَنُورٌۭ wanūrun and light
وَمُصَدِّقًۭا wamuṣaddiqan and confirming
لِّمَا limā what
بَيْنَ bayna (was) between
يَدَيْهِ yadayhi his hands
مِنَ mina of
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ l-tawrāti the Taurat
وَهُدًۭى wahudan and a Guidance
وَمَوْعِظَةًۭ wamawʿiẓatan and an admonition
لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ lil'muttaqīna for the God conscious

46. 1. That is, immediately after the previous prophets, ‘Isa (Jesus) عليه السلام was sent, who confirmed the Torah that had been revealed before him, not denying it. This was evidence that ‘Isa عليه السلام was also a true messenger of Allah and was sent by the same Allah who had revealed the Torah to Musa عليه السلام. Despite this, the Jews denied ‘Isa عليه السلام, and even declared him a disbeliever, belittled and insulted him. (کفر کا فتویٰ دے کر رسوا کیا)

46. 2. That is, just as the Torah was a source of guidance for people in its time, in the same way, after the revelation of the Injil, this status was given to the Injil. Then, after the revelation of the Noble Qur’an, acting upon the Torah, Injil, and other heavenly books was abrogated, and the Qur’an became the only source of guidance and salvation. With this, Allah ended the series of heavenly books. This is, in a way, a declaration that the success and prosperity of all humans born until the Day of Judgment is linked to this Qur’an. Whoever attaches himself to it will remain successful; whoever is cut off from it, failure and disappointment will be his fate. From this, it is understood that the philosophy of “unity of religions” is completely wrong; the truth has always been one in every era, not multiple. Everything other than the truth is falsehood. The Torah was the truth of its time. After that, the Injil was the truth of its time. After the revelation of the Injil, it was not permissible to act upon the Torah. And when the Qur’an was revealed, the Injil was abrogated. Acting upon the Injil was no longer permissible at all, and only the Qur’an remained as the sole system of action and salvation. Without believing in it—that is, without accepting the prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ—salvation is not possible. For further details, see the footnote of Surah al-Baqarah, verse 26.
