Surah Al-Maaida (5) — Ayah 22

قَالُوا۟ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّ فِيهَا قَوْمًا جَبَّارِينَ وَإِنَّا لَن نَّدْخُلَهَا حَتَّىٰ يَخْرُجُوا۟ مِنْهَا فَإِن يَخْرُجُوا۟ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّا دَٰخِلُونَ ﴿22﴾
They said: "O Mûsâ (Moses)! In it (this holy land) are a people of great strength, and we shall never enter it till they leave it; when they leave, then we will enter."
قَالُوا۟ qālū They said
يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ yāmūsā O Musa
إِنَّ inna Indeed
فِيهَا fīhā in it
قَوْمًۭا qawman (are) people
جَبَّارِينَ jabbārīna (of) tyrannical strength
وَإِنَّا wa-innā and indeed, we
لَن lan never
نَّدْخُلَهَا nadkhulahā will enter it
حَتَّىٰ ḥattā until
يَخْرُجُوا۟ yakhrujū they leave
مِنْهَا min'hā from it
فَإِن fa-in and if
يَخْرُجُوا۟ yakhrujū they leave
مِنْهَا min'hā [from] it
فَإِنَّا fa-innā then certainly we (will)
دَٰخِلُونَ dākhilūna enter (it)

22. 1. The Children of Israel were overawed by the fame of the bravery of the Amalekites and lost courage at the very first stage. And they withdrew from jihad. They paid no heed to the command of Allah’s Messenger, Hazrat Musa ؑ, nor did they believe in Allah’s promise of help; they flatly refused to go there.
