Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

6.2 According to most commentators, this verse was revealed regarding Hazrat Walid bin Uqbah (RA), whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sent to collect the charity from Banu al-Mustaliq, but he came back and reported that they had refused to give zakat, upon which the Prophet ﷺ intended to take military action against them. However, it was later discovered that this was incorrect and Walid (RA) had not even gone there. But in terms of both the chain of narration and the actual event, this narration is not Sahih, so it is not correct to attribute it to a companion of the Messenger ﷺ. However, regardless of the discussion about the reason for revelation, a very important principle has been stated here, which is of great significance on both individual and collective levels. Every individual and every government should first investigate so that no action is taken against anyone due to a misunderstanding.
