Verily, those who give Bai‘ah (pledge) to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) they are giving Bai‘ah (pledge) to Allâh. The Hand of Allâh is over their hands. Then whosoever breaks his pledge, breaks it only to his own harm; and whosoever fulfils what he has covenanted with Allâh, He will bestow on him a great reward.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

10. 1. That is, this pledge is actually with Allah Himself because He is the One who has commanded jihad and He alone will grant the reward for it. Just as it is stated elsewhere that this is a transaction of their lives and wealth with Allah in exchange for Paradise (at-Tawbah: 111). This is similar to (مَنْ يُّطِعِ الرَّسُوْلَ فَقَدْ اَطَاع اللّٰهَ) (4:80).

10. 2. The verse refers to the same pledge of Ridwan which the Prophet ﷺ took from the 14 or 15 hundred Muslims present at Hudaybiyyah after hearing the news of the martyrdom of Hazrat Uthman, in order to take revenge for him.

10. 3. NAKTH (breaking the covenant) here means breaking the pledge, that is, not participating in the battle as per the agreement. That is, whoever does so, its consequence will fall upon him.

10. 4. That he will help the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, fight alongside him, until Allah grants victory and dominance to the Muslims.
