ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ كَرِهُوا۟ مَا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ سَنُطِيعُكُمْ فِى بَعْضِ ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِسْرَارَهُمْ ﴿26﴾
This is because they said to those who hate what Allâh has sent down: "We will obey you in part of the matter." But Allâh knows their secrets.
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That
بِأَنَّهُمْ bi-annahum (is) because they
قَالُوا۟ qālū [they] said
لِلَّذِينَ lilladhīna to those who
كَرِهُوا۟ karihū hate
مَا what
نَزَّلَ nazzala Allah has revealed
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah has revealed
سَنُطِيعُكُمْ sanuṭīʿukum We will obey you
فِى in
بَعْضِ baʿḍi part
ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ l-amri (of) the matter
وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu But Allah
يَعْلَمُ yaʿlamu knows
إِسْرَارَهُمْ is'rārahum their secrets

26. 1. By "this" is meant their becoming apostates.
26. 2. That is, the hypocrites said to the polytheists or to the Jews.
26. 3. That is, in opposition to the Prophet ﷺ and the religion brought by him ﷺ.
26. 4. As stated elsewhere: وَاللّٰهُ يَكْتُبُ مَا يُبَيِّتُوْنَ) 4. An-Nisa:81).
