۞ أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ دَمَّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ وَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَمْثَـٰلُهَا ﴿10﴾
Have they not travelled through the earth, and seen what was the end of those before them? Allâh destroyed them completely, and a similar (fate awaits) the disbelievers.
۞ أَفَلَمْ afalam Do not
يَسِيرُوا۟ yasīrū they travel
فِى in
ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth
فَيَنظُرُوا۟ fayanẓurū and see
كَيْفَ kayfa how
كَانَ kāna was
عَـٰقِبَةُ ʿāqibatu (the) end
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (of) those
مِن min before them
قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ qablihim before them
دَمَّرَ dammara Allah destroyed
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah destroyed
عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ ʿalayhim [over] them
وَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ walil'kāfirīna and for the disbelievers
أَمْثَـٰلُهَا amthāluhā its likeness

10. 1 Many of whose remnants were present in their regions—at the time of the revelation of the Quran, the ruins and remnants of some destroyed nations were present, therefore, attention was drawn to traveling and observing their dreadful fate, so that perhaps by seeing them, they might come to faith.

10. 2 The people of Makkah are being warned that if you do not refrain from disbelief, then a similar punishment could befall you as well. And just as the previous disbelieving nations were destroyed, you too could be subjected to destruction.
