And indeed We had firmly established them with that wherewith We have not established you (O Quraish)! And We had assigned them the (faculties of) hearing (ears), seeing (eyes), and hearts; but their hearing (ears), seeing (eyes), and their hearts availed them nothing since they used to deny the Ayât (Allâh’s Prophets and their Prophethood, proofs, evidence, verses, signs, revelations) of Allâh, and they were completely encircled by that which they used to mock at!
وَلَقَدْ walaqad And certainly

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

2 6. 1. This is being addressed to the people of Makkah, saying: What are you? The nations before you whom We destroyed were far greater than you in strength and power, but when they did not use the abilities given by Allah—their eyes, ears, and hearts—to listen to, see, and understand the truth, then ultimately We destroyed them, and these things were of no benefit to them.

26. That is, the punishment which they used to consider impossible and mockingly say, "Bring on your punishment with which you keep threatening us!"—that punishment came and surrounded them in such a way that they could not escape from it.
