سُوْرَةُ الْجَاثِيَةِ

Surah Al-Jaathiya (45) — Ayah 9

وَإِذَا عَلِمَ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا شَيْـًٔا ٱتَّخَذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ ﴿9﴾
And when he learns something of Our Verses (this Qur’ân), he makes them a jest. For such there will be a humiliating torment.
وَإِذَا wa-idhā And when
عَلِمَ ʿalima he knows
مِنْ min of
ءَايَـٰتِنَا āyātinā Our Verses
شَيْـًٔا shayan anything
ٱتَّخَذَهَا ittakhadhahā he takes them
هُزُوًا ۚ huzuwan (in) ridicule
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ulāika Those
لَهُمْ lahum for them
عَذَابٌۭ ʿadhābun (is) a punishment
مُّهِينٌۭ muhīnun humiliating

9. 1. That is, firstly he does not listen to the Qur'an attentively at all, and if any point happens to reach his ears or any matter comes to his knowledge, he makes it a subject of mockery. This is either due to his lack of understanding and foolishness, or due to insistence and arrogance upon disbelief and sin.
