And they said [to Mûsâ (Moses)]: "O you sorcerer! Invoke your Lord for us according to what He has covenanted with you. Verily, We shall guide ourselves (aright)."

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَyāayyuhaO
ٱلسَّاحِرُl-sāḥiru[the] magician
ٱدْعُud'ʿuInvoke

رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
بِمَاbimāby what
عَهِدَʿahidaHe has made covenant
عِندَكَʿindakawith you
إِنَّنَاinnanāIndeed, we
لَمُهْتَدُونَlamuh'tadūna(will) surely be guided

49. 1. The words 'from your Lord' were said due to their polytheistic mentality, because among the polytheists there were different lords and gods; (they meant) O Musa, have this done by your Lord! 49. 2. That is, the promise of averting the punishment upon our believing. 49. 3. If the punishment is averted, we will accept you as the true Messenger of Allah and worship only your Lord, but every time they broke this covenant, as mentioned in the next verse and also in Surah Al-A'raf.
