وَمَن يَعْشُ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ نُقَيِّضْ لَهُۥ شَيْطَـٰنًا فَهُوَ لَهُۥ قَرِينٌ ﴿36﴾
And whosoever turns away blindly from the remembrance of the Most Gracious (Allâh) (i.e. this Qur’ân and worship of Allâh), We appoint for him Shaitan (Satan - devil) to be a Qarîn (a companion) to him.
وَمَن waman And whoever
يَعْشُ yaʿshu turns away
عَن ʿan from
ذِكْرِ dhik'ri (the) remembrance
ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ l-raḥmāni (of) the Most Gracious
نُقَيِّضْ nuqayyiḍ We appoint
لَهُۥ lahu for him
شَيْطَـٰنًۭا shayṭānan a devil
فَهُوَ fahuwa then he
لَهُۥ lahu (is) to him
قَرِينٌۭ qarīnun a companion

36. 1. عَشَا یَعْشُوْ means an eye disease due to which blindness occurs. That is, whoever becomes blind to the remembrance of Allah.
36. 2. That Shaytan becomes the companion of the one who is heedless of Allah's remembrance, who stays with him at all times and prevents him from good deeds.
