Surah Ash-Shura (42) — Ayah 45

وَتَرَىٰهُمْ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَيْهَا خَـٰشِعِينَ مِنَ ٱلذُّلِّ يَنظُرُونَ مِن طَرْفٍ خَفِىٍّ ۗ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَهْلِيهِمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ فِى عَذَابٍ مُّقِيمٍ ﴿45﴾
And you will see them brought forward to it (Hell) made humble by disgrace, (and) looking with stealthy glance. And those who believe will say: "Verily, the losers are they who lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Verily, the Zâlimûn [i.e. Al-Kâfirûn (disbelievers in Allâh, in His Oneness and in His Messenger صلى الله عليه و سلم, polytheists, wrong-doers)] will be in a lasting torment. (Tafsir At-Tabari).
وَتَرَىٰهُمْ watarāhum And you will see them
يُعْرَضُونَ yuʿ'raḍūna being exposed
عَلَيْهَا ʿalayhā to it
خَـٰشِعِينَ khāshiʿīna humbled
مِنَ mina by
ٱلذُّلِّ l-dhuli disgrace
يَنظُرُونَ yanẓurūna looking
مِن min with
طَرْفٍ ṭarfin a glance
خَفِىٍّۢ ۗ khafiyyin stealthy
وَقَالَ waqāla And will say
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who
ءَامَنُوٓا۟ āmanū believed
إِنَّ inna Indeed
ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ l-khāsirīna the losers
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna (are) those who
خَسِرُوٓا۟ khasirū lost
أَنفُسَهُمْ anfusahum themselves
وَأَهْلِيهِمْ wa-ahlīhim and their families
يَوْمَ yawma (on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ l-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrection
أَلَآ alā Unquestionably
إِنَّ inna Indeed
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ l-ẓālimīna the wrongdoers
فِى (are) in
عَذَابٍۢ ʿadhābin a punishment
مُّقِيمٍۢ muqīmin lasting

45. 1. That is, in the world these disbelievers used to consider us foolish and as people of worldly loss, whereas in the world we only preferred the Hereafter and did not give any importance to worldly losses. Today, see who is actually facing real loss: those who ignored the temporary losses of the world and are now enjoying the pleasures of Paradise, or those who considered the world to be everything and are now caught in such a punishment from which escape is not possible.
