Then what is the matter with you that you are divided into two parties about the hypocrites? Allâh has cast them back (to disbelief) because of what they have earned. Do you want to guide him whom Allâh has made to go astray? And he whom Allâh has made to go astray, you will never find for him any way (of guidance).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

88. 1 This interrogative is for denial, meaning there should not have been any disagreement among you regarding these hypocrites. By these hypocrites are meant those who, during the Battle of Uhud, turned back after going a little distance from Madinah, and our advice was not accepted (Sahih Bukhari Surah, Nisa, Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Munafiqin), as has already been detailed earlier. At that time, the Muslims were divided into two groups regarding these hypocrites: one group said that we should fight these hypocrites (as well), while the other group considered it against expediency. 88. 2 By كَسَبُوا (deeds) is meant opposition to the Messenger ﷺ and turning away from jihad. ارْكَسَهُمْ means turned them upside down, that is, He made them fall back into the same disbelief and misguidance from which they had come out, or destroyed them because of it. 88. 3 Whomever Allah leads astray, meaning due to their persistent disbelief and stubbornness, He seals their hearts, no one can guide them.
