Surah An-Nisaa (4) — Ayah 2

وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰٓ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تَتَبَدَّلُوا۟ ٱلْخَبِيثَ بِٱلطَّيِّبِ ۖ وَلَا تَأْكُلُوٓا۟ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَمْوَٰلِكُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حُوبًا كَبِيرًا ﴿2﴾
And give unto orphans their property and do not exchange (your) bad things for (their) good ones; and devour not their substance (by adding it) to your substance. Surely, this is a great sin.
وَءَاتُوا۟ waātū And give
ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰٓ l-yatāmā (to) the orphans
أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ ۖ amwālahum their wealth
وَلَا walā and (do) not
تَتَبَدَّلُوا۟ tatabaddalū exchange
ٱلْخَبِيثَ l-khabītha the bad
بِٱلطَّيِّبِ ۖ bil-ṭayibi with the good
وَلَا walā and (do) not
تَأْكُلُوٓا۟ takulū consume
أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ amwālahum their wealth
إِلَىٰٓ ilā with
أَمْوَٰلِكُمْ ۚ amwālikum your wealth
إِنَّهُۥ innahu Indeed, it
كَانَ kāna is
حُوبًۭا ḥūban a sin
كَبِيرًۭا kabīran great

2. 1. When orphans become mature and sensible, then entrust their wealth to them. By "khabeeth" are meant inferior things, and by "tayyib" are meant excellent things; that is, do not take the good things from their wealth and, just to make up the count, put inferior things in their place. The wealth that has been exchanged, even though it is originally tayyib (pure and lawful), your dishonesty has introduced impurity into it, and it is no longer tayyib; rather, for you it has become khabeeth (impure and unlawful). Similarly, mixing their wealth with your own and consuming it through dishonesty is also prohibited; otherwise, if the intention is goodwill, then mixing their wealth with your own is permissible.
