Surah An-Nisaa (4) — Ayah 104

وَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ فِى ٱبْتِغَآءِ ٱلْقَوْمِ ۖ إِن تَكُونُوا۟ تَأْلَمُونَ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَأْلَمُونَ كَمَا تَأْلَمُونَ ۖ وَتَرْجُونَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَرْجُونَ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا ﴿104﴾
And don’t be weak in the pursuit of the enemy; if you are suffering (hardships) then surely, they (too) are suffering (hardships) as you are suffering, but you have a hope from Allâh (for the reward, i.e. Paradise) that for which they hope not; and Allâh is Ever All-Knowing, All-Wise.
وَلَا walā And (do) not
تَهِنُوا۟ tahinū be weak
فِى in
ٱبْتِغَآءِ ib'tighāi pursuit
ٱلْقَوْمِ ۖ l-qawmi (of) the people
إِن in If
تَكُونُوا۟ takūnū you are
تَأْلَمُونَ talamūna suffering
فَإِنَّهُمْ fa-innahum then indeed, they
يَأْلَمُونَ yalamūna are (also) suffering
كَمَا kamā like what
تَأْلَمُونَ ۖ talamūna you are suffering
وَتَرْجُونَ watarjūna while you (have) hope
مِنَ mina from
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi Allah
مَا what
لَا not
يَرْجُونَ ۗ yarjūna they hope
وَكَانَ wakāna And is
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah
عَلِيمًا ʿalīman All-Knowing
حَكِيمًا ḥakīman All-Wise

14. 1. That is, do not show weakness in pursuing your enemy, rather strive against them with full effort and lie in ambush for them.

14. 2. That is, both you and they have suffered wounds, but you hope for reward from Allah for these wounds, whereas they do not hope for it. Therefore, the effort and striving you can do for attaining the reward of the Hereafter, the disbelievers cannot do.
