Surah Az-Zumar (39) — Ayah 2

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَٱعْبُدِ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصًا لَّهُ ٱلدِّينَ ﴿2﴾
Verily We have sent down the Book to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) in truth: So worship Allâh (Alone) by doing religious deeds sincerely for Allâh’s sake only.
إِنَّآ innā Indeed, We
أَنزَلْنَآ anzalnā [We] have revealed
إِلَيْكَ ilayka to you
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ l-kitāba the Book
بِٱلْحَقِّ bil-ḥaqi in truth
فَٱعْبُدِ fa-uʿ'budi so worship
ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah
مُخْلِصًۭا mukh'liṣan (being) sincere
لَّهُ lahu to Him
ٱلدِّينَ l-dīna (in) the religion

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. 2. 1. That is, the affirmation of monotheism and messengership, the Hereafter, and commands and obligations that has been established in this, all of it is true, and in accepting and adopting these lies the salvation of mankind.

2. 2. The meaning of "deen" here is worship and obedience, and "ikhlas" means to perform good deeds solely with the intention of pleasing Allah. The verse is evidence for the obligation of intention and its sincerity. The importance of sincerity of intention has also been clarified in the hadith by stating that إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ 'The foundation of deeds is upon intentions,' meaning that any good deed done for the pleasure of Allah (provided it is according to the Sunnah) will be accepted, and any deed in which there is a mixture of any other motive will not be accepted.
