Any superiority of one over the other is due only to some external cause, and this external cause, in comparison to fire, was found in clay, as Allah created Adam (AS) with His own hands from it. Then He breathed His spirit into him; in this respect, clay itself has honor and greatness over fire. Moreover, the function of fire is to burn and reduce to ashes, whereas clay, on the contrary, is the source of various kinds of production.
