Surah Saad (38) — Ayah 71

إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَـٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن طِينٍ ﴿71﴾
(Remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "Truly I am going to create man from clay".
إِذْ idh When
قَالَ qāla said
رَبُّكَ rabbuka your Lord
لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ lil'malāikati to the Angels
إِنِّى innī Indeed, I Am
خَـٰلِقٌۢ khāliqun going to create
بَشَرًۭا basharan a human being
مِّن min from
طِينٍۢ ṭīnin clay

71. 1 This story has previously been mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah, Surah Al-A'raf, Surah Al-Hijr, Surah Bani Isra'il, and Surah Al-Kahf, and now it is being briefly mentioned here as well.

71. 2 That is, I am going to create a body of the human kind. Man is called "bashar" because of his direct connection with the earth. That is, all his attachment is with the earth and he does everything on this earth. Or because he is "badi' al-bashara," meaning his body or face is apparent.
