وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ ٱلْحِسَابِ ﴿16﴾
They say: "Our Lord! Hasten to us Qittanâ (i.e. our Record of good and bad deeds so that we may see it) before the Day of Reckoning!"
وَقَالُوا۟ waqālū And they say
رَبَّنَا rabbanā Our Lord
عَجِّل ʿajjil Hasten
لَّنَا lanā for us
قِطَّنَا qiṭṭanā our share
قَبْلَ qabla before
يَوْمِ yawmi (the) Day
ٱلْحِسَابِ l-ḥisābi (of) the Account

16. 1. That is, according to our book of deeds, whatever good or bad punishment is due to us, give it to us in this world before the Day of Judgment comes. They said this mockingly, considering the occurrence of the Resurrection impossible.
