سُوْرَةُ يٰسٓ

Surah Yaseen (36) — Ayah 34

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّـٰتٍ مِّن نَّخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَـٰبٍ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْعُيُونِ ﴿34﴾
And We have made therein gardens of date-palms and grapes, and We have caused springs of water to gush forth therein.
وَجَعَلْنَا wajaʿalnā And We placed
فِيهَا fīhā therein
جَنَّـٰتٍۢ jannātin gardens
مِّن min of
نَّخِيلٍۢ nakhīlin date-palms
وَأَعْنَـٰبٍۢ wa-aʿnābin and grapevines
وَفَجَّرْنَا wafajjarnā and We caused to gush forth
فِيهَا fīhā in it
مِنَ mina of
ٱلْعُيُونِ l-ʿuyūni the springs

34. 1. That is, by reviving the dead land, We not only grow grain for their sustenance, but also abundantly produce various kinds of fruits for their enjoyment and pleasure. Here, only two fruits are mentioned because they are highly beneficial and also favored by the Arabs, and their production is also greater in Arabia. Then, grain is mentioned first because its production is greater and its importance as food is also well established. As long as a person does not fill his stomach with bread or rice, etc., his nutritional needs are not fulfilled by fruits alone.
