The Originator · Meccan · Juz 22 · Page 438

Then We gave the Book (the Qur’ân) as inheritance to such of Our slaves whom We chose (the followers of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم). Then of them are some who wrong their ownselves, and of them are some who follow a middle course, and of them are some who are, by Allâh’s Leave, foremost in good deeds. That (inheritance of the Qur’ân) - that is indeed a great grace.
ثُمَّ thumma Then
أَوْرَثْنَا awrathnā We caused to inherit

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

32. 1. By "the Book" is meant the Quran, and by "chosen servants" is meant the Ummah of Muhammad. That is, We have made the Ummah of Muhammad the inheritor of this Quran, whom We have chosen over other communities and bestowed honor and excellence upon them. This is almost the same meaning as in verse al-Baqarah 2:142.

32. 2. There are three categories of the Ummah of Muhammad. This is the first category, referring to those people who are negligent in some obligations and commit some prohibitions, or according to some, those who commit minor sins. They are called "those who wrong themselves" because, due to some of their shortcomings, they will deprive themselves of the highest rank that the other two categories will attain.

32. 3. This is the second category. That is, they perform mixed deeds, or according to some, they are those who are committed to obligations and avoid prohibitions, but sometimes deviate from supplications and also commit some forbidden things, or they are those who are righteous but not at the forefront.

32. 3. These are those who surpass the previous two in matters of religion.

32. 4. That is, making them inheritors of the Book and distinguishing them in honor and excellence (مصطفٰی).
