Surah Luqman (31) — Ayah 27

وَلَوْ أَنَّمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِن شَجَرَةٍ أَقْلَـٰمٌ وَٱلْبَحْرُ يَمُدُّهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ سَبْعَةُ أَبْحُرٍ مَّا نَفِدَتْ كَلِمَـٰتُ ٱللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ ﴿27﴾
And if all the trees on the earth were pens and the sea (were ink wherewith to write), with seven seas behind it to add to its (supply), yet the Words of Allâh would not be exhausted. Verily, Allâh is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
وَلَوْ walaw And if
أَنَّمَا annamā whatever
فِى (is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ l-arḍi the earth
مِن min of
شَجَرَةٍ shajaratin (the) trees
أَقْلَـٰمٌۭ aqlāmun (were) pens
وَٱلْبَحْرُ wal-baḥru and the sea
يَمُدُّهُۥ yamudduhu (to) add to it
مِنۢ min after it
بَعْدِهِۦ baʿdihi after it
سَبْعَةُ sabʿatu seven
أَبْحُرٍۢ abḥurin seas
مَّا not
نَفِدَتْ nafidat would be exhausted
كَلِمَـٰتُ kalimātu (the) Words
ٱللَّهِ ۗ l-lahi (of) Allah
إِنَّ inna Indeed
ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah
عَزِيزٌ ʿazīzun (is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌۭ ḥakīmun All-Wise

In this, the greatness and majesty of Allah, His exalted status, His beautiful names and lofty attributes, and the manifestations of His greatness are described, to the extent that it is impossible for anyone to encompass them, be aware of them, or reach their reality. If one were to try to enumerate them or bring them within the scope of writing, all the trees in the world would be worn out as pens, the ink made from the waters of the seas would be exhausted, but the knowledge of Allah, the wonders of His creation and craftsmanship, and the manifestations of His greatness and majesty could not be counted. The mention of seven seas is for emphasis, not limitation (Ibn Kathir), because it is not possible to confine or enumerate the signs and words of Allah. A verse with the same meaning has already appeared at the end of Surah Al-Kahf.
