سُوْرَةُ اٰلِ عِمْرٰنَ

Surah Aal-i-Imraan (3) — Ayah 77

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَا خَلَـٰقَ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَا يَنظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ﴿77﴾
Verily, those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allâh’s Covenant and their oaths, they shall have no portion in the Hereafter (Paradise). Neither will Allâh speak to them, nor look at them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and they shall have a painful torment.
إِنَّ inna Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who
يَشْتَرُونَ yashtarūna exchange
بِعَهْدِ biʿahdi (the) Covenant
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah
وَأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ wa-aymānihim and their oaths
ثَمَنًۭا thamanan (for) a price
قَلِيلًا qalīlan little
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ulāika those
لَا no
خَلَـٰقَ khalāqa share
لَهُمْ lahum for them
فِى in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ l-ākhirati the Hereafter
وَلَا walā and not
يُكَلِّمُهُمُ yukallimuhumu will speak to them
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah
وَلَا walā and not
يَنظُرُ yanẓuru look
إِلَيْهِمْ ilayhim at them
يَوْمَ yawma (on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ l-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrection
وَلَا walā and not
يُزَكِّيهِمْ yuzakkīhim purify them
وَلَهُمْ walahum and for them
عَذَابٌ ʿadhābun (is) a punishment
أَلِيمٌۭ alīmun painful

77. 1. In contrast to the aforementioned individuals, the condition of other people has been described, and these include two types of people: first, those who, by turning their backs on the covenant of Allah and their oaths, did not believe in the Prophet ﷺ for a small religious benefits; second, those who, by swearing false oaths, sell their goods or usurp someone’s wealth, as has been mentioned in the ahadith. For example, the Prophet ﷺ said that whoever swears a false oath to seize someone’s wealth will meet Allah in such a state that Allah will be angry with him. He also said that there are three people with whom Allah will neither speak, nor look at, nor purify them, and for them there will be a painful punishment. Among them is the person who sells his goods by means of a false oath. These matters have been mentioned in numerous ahadith. (Ibn Kathir and Fath al-Qadir)
