Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

54. 1. In the time of ʿĪsā (Jesus) عليه السلام, the region of Syria was under the control of the Romans. The ruler appointed there by them was a disbeliever. The Jews incited this ruler against ʿĪsā عليه السلام, saying, God forbid, that he was fatherless and a troublemaker, etc. At their demand, the ruler decided to crucify ʿĪsā عليه السلام, but Allah raised ʿĪsā عليه السلام safely to the heavens, and in his place, a man resembling him was crucified. (مکر) in the Arabic language means a subtle and secret plan, and in this sense, here Allah Almighty is called (خیرُ الْماکِرِیْنَ). Thus, this makr (plan) can be bad if it is for a wrong purpose, and it can be good if it is for a good purpose.
