Surah Aal-i-Imraan (3) — Ayah 50

وَمُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَىَّ مِنَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ وَلِأُحِلَّ لَكُم بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى حُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ وَجِئْتُكُم بِـَٔايَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ﴿50﴾
And I have come confirming that which was before me of the Taurât (Torah), and to make lawful to you part of what was forbidden to you, and I have come to you with a proof from your Lord. So fear Allâh and obey me.
وَمُصَدِّقًۭا wamuṣaddiqan And confirming
لِّمَا limā that which
بَيْنَ bayna (was)
يَدَىَّ yadayya before me
مِنَ mina of
ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ l-tawrāti the Taurat
وَلِأُحِلَّ wali-uḥilla and so that I make lawful
لَكُم lakum for you
بَعْضَ baʿḍa some
ٱلَّذِى alladhī (of) that which
حُرِّمَ ḥurrima was forbidden
عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ ʿalaykum to you
وَجِئْتُكُم waji'tukum And I (have) come to you
بِـَٔايَةٍۢ biāyatin with a sign
مِّن min from
رَّبِّكُمْ rabbikum your Lord
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ fa-ittaqū So fear
ٱللَّهَ l-laha Allah
وَأَطِيعُونِ wa-aṭīʿūni and obey me

50. 1. By this is meant either those certain things which Allah Almighty made forbidden for them as a punishment, or those things which their scholars declared forbidden through ijtihad, and in their ijtihad they made a mistake. Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) corrected this mistake and declared them lawful. (Ibn Kathir)
