Surah Aal-i-Imraan (3) — Ayah 47

قَالَتْ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِى وَلَدٌ وَلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِى بَشَرٌ ۖ قَالَ كَذَٰلِكِ ٱللَّهُ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰٓ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ ﴿47﴾
She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me." He said: "So (it will be) for Allâh creates what He wills. When He has decreed something, He says to it only: "Be!" - and it is.
قَالَتْ qālat She said
رَبِّ rabbi My Lord
أَنَّىٰ annā how
يَكُونُ yakūnu is [it]
لِى for me
وَلَدٌۭ waladun a boy
وَلَمْ walam and (has) not
يَمْسَسْنِى yamsasnī touch(ed) me
بَشَرٌۭ ۖ basharun any man
قَالَ qāla He said
كَذَٰلِكِ kadhāliki Thus
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah
يَخْلُقُ yakhluqu creates
مَا what
يَشَآءُ ۚ yashāu He wills
إِذَا idhā When
قَضَىٰٓ qaḍā He decrees
أَمْرًۭا amran a matter
فَإِنَّمَا fa-innamā then only
يَقُولُ yaqūlu He says
لَهُۥ lahu to it
كُن kun Be
فَيَكُونُ fayakūnu and it becomes

47. 1. Your amazement is justified, but for the Divine Power, this is not a difficult matter at all. Whenever He wills, He can end the chain of customary and apparent means, and with the command "Kun," accomplish whatever He wishes in the blink of an eye.
