Surah Aal-i-Imraan (3) — Ayah 24

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لَن تَمَسَّنَا ٱلنَّارُ إِلَّآ أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَٰتٍ ۖ وَغَرَّهُمْ فِى دِينِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ ﴿24﴾
This is because they say: "The Fire shall not touch us but for a number of days." And that which they used to invent regarding their religion has deceived them.
ذَٰلِكَ dhālika That
بِأَنَّهُمْ bi-annahum (is) because they
قَالُوا۟ qālū say
لَن lan Never
تَمَسَّنَا tamassanā will touch us
ٱلنَّارُ l-nāru the Fire
إِلَّآ illā except
أَيَّامًۭا ayyāman (for) days
مَّعْدُودَٰتٍۢ ۖ maʿdūdātin numbered
وَغَرَّهُمْ wagharrahum And deceived them
فِى in
دِينِهِم dīnihim their religion
مَّا what
كَانُوا۟ kānū they were
يَفْتَرُونَ yaftarūna inventing

24. 1. That is, the reason for avoiding and objecting to the Book of Allah is this false assumption that firstly, they will never enter Hell, and even if they do, it will only be for a few days, and these fabricated statements have led them into this deception and delusion.
