Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
172. 1. When the polytheists returned from the Battle of Uhud, on the way they thought that they had wasted a golden opportunity. Because the Muslims, due to their defeat, were fearful and discouraged, they should have taken advantage of this and launched a full attack on Madinah so that this plant of Islam would be uprooted from its very land (Madinah). On the other hand, when the Prophet ﷺ reached Madinah, he also feared that they might return, so he encouraged the Companions to prepare for battle, and the Companions got ready. When this caravan of Muslims reached 'Hamra’ al-Asad', which is 8 miles from Madinah, the polytheists felt fear, so their intention changed and instead of attacking Madinah, they returned to Makkah. After that, the Prophet ﷺ and his companions also returned to Madinah. In the verse, this spirit of obedience to Allah and His Messenger by the Muslims is praised. Some have mentioned the reason for revelation as the threat of Abu Sufyan that next year there would be a confrontation at Badr Sughra. (Abu Sufyan had not yet become Muslim) Upon this, the Muslims also demonstrated their spirit of obedience to Allah and His Messenger and resolved to participate fully in jihad.
