Surah Al-Ankaboot (29) — Ayah 13

وَلَيَحْمِلُنَّ أَثْقَالَهُمْ وَأَثْقَالًا مَّعَ أَثْقَالِهِمْ ۖ وَلَيُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ ﴿13﴾
And verily, they shall bear their own loads, and other loads besides their own; and verily, they shall be questioned on the Day of Resurrection about that which they used to fabricate.
وَلَيَحْمِلُنَّ walayaḥmilunna But surely they will carry
أَثْقَالَهُمْ athqālahum their burdens
وَأَثْقَالًۭا wa-athqālan and burdens
مَّعَ maʿa with
أَثْقَالِهِمْ ۖ athqālihim their burdens
وَلَيُسْـَٔلُنَّ walayus'alunna and surely they will be questioned
يَوْمَ yawma (on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ l-qiyāmati (of) the Resurrection
عَمَّا ʿammā about what
كَانُوا۟ kānū they used
يَفْتَرُونَ yaftarūna (to) invent

13-1 That is, these leaders of disbelief and callers to misguidance will not only bear their own burden, but also the burden of those people who were led astray by their efforts and endeavors. This subject has also been mentioned in Surah An-Nahl. In the hadith, it is stated: Whoever calls towards guidance, for him will be the reward of his own good deeds as well as the reward of the good deeds of those who follow his guidance until the Day of Judgment, without any decrease in their reward. And whoever is a caller to misguidance, for him will be his own sins as well as the burden of the sins of those who, because of him, choose the path of misguidance until the Day of Judgment, without any decrease in their sins. According to this same principle, the sin of the blood of those who are unjustly killed until the Day of Judgment will be upon Adam's (AS) first son (Qabil), because he was the first to commit unjust murder.
