Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
It is out of His Mercy that He has made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein (i.e. during the night) and that you may seek of His Bounty (i.e. during the day) - and in order that you may be grateful.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
73-1. Day and night, both are among Allah's great blessings. He made the night dark so that everyone could rest. Because of this darkness, every creature is compelled to sleep and rest. Otherwise, if everyone had their own separate times for resting and sleeping, no one would be able to sleep properly, whereas fulfilling the need for sleep is extremely necessary for economic struggle and worldly business. Without it, energy cannot be restored. If some people were sleeping while others were awake and busy in their pursuits, the rest and comfort of those sleeping would be disturbed, and people would also be deprived of mutual cooperation, whereas the system of the world depends on mutual cooperation and support. That is why Allah made the night dark so that all creatures could rest at the same time and no one could disturb anyone's sleep and rest. Similarly, He made the day bright so that in the light, humans could conduct their business in a better way. If there were no daylight, the difficulties that humans would face are easily understood and realized by everyone. Allah, in reference to these blessings, has affirmed His oneness: tell me, if Allah were to end this system of day and night and impose perpetual night upon you, is there any deity besides Allah who could grant you the light of day? Or if He were to keep it always day, is there anyone who could provide you with the darkness of night, in which you could rest? No, certainly not. It is only Allah's perfect kindness that He has established such a system of day and night that when night comes, the light of day ends, and it is during the day that humans seek Allah's bounty (provision) through work and effort.
73-2. That is, also declare the praise and glorification of Allah (this is verbal gratitude), and use the wealth, abilities, and energies given by Allah according to His commands and guidance. (This is practical gratitude)
