Surah Al-Qasas (28) — Ayah 43

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَآ أَهْلَكْنَا ٱلْقُرُونَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ بَصَآئِرَ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ ﴿43﴾
And indeed We gave Mûsâ (Moses) - after We had destroyed the generations of old -the Scripture [the Taurât (Torah)] as an enlightenment for mankind, and a guidance and a mercy, that they might remember (or receive admonition).
وَلَقَدْ walaqad And verily
ءَاتَيْنَا ātaynā We gave
مُوسَى mūsā Musa
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ l-kitāba the Scripture
مِنۢ min after [what]
بَعْدِ baʿdi after [what]
مَآ after [what]
أَهْلَكْنَا ahlaknā We had destroyed
ٱلْقُرُونَ l-qurūna the generations
ٱلْأُولَىٰ l-ūlā former
بَصَآئِرَ baṣāira (as) an enlightenment
لِلنَّاسِ lilnnāsi for the mankind
وَهُدًۭى wahudan and a guidance
وَرَحْمَةًۭ waraḥmatan and mercy
لَّعَلَّهُمْ laʿallahum that they may
يَتَذَكَّرُونَ yatadhakkarūna remember

43-1. That is, after the destruction of Pharaoh and his people or the people of Noah, ‘Ad, Thamud, etc., Musa (Moses) ؑ was given the Book (Tawrah).
43-2. So that they may recognize the truth and adopt it, and become deserving of Allah’s mercy.
43-3. That is, they may give thanks for Allah’s blessings, believe in Allah, and obey His messengers who call them towards goodness, guidance, and true success.
