سُوْرَةُ الشُّعَرَآءِ
Surah Ash-Shu'araa (26) — Ayah 86
وَٱغْفِرْ لِأَبِىٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ ﴿86﴾

And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring.

86-1. This supplication was at a time when it was not clear to him that seeking forgiveness for a polytheist (enemy of Allah) is not permissible; when Allah made it clear, then he expressed disassociation from his father (وَمَا كَانَ اسْتِغْفَارُ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ لِاَبِيْهِ اِلَّا عَنْ مَّوْعِدَةٍ وَّعَدَھَآ اِيَّاهُ ۚ فَلَمَّا تَـبَيَّنَ لَهٗٓ اَنَّهٗ عَدُوٌّ لِّلّٰهِ تَبَرَّاَ مِنْهُ ۭ اِنَّ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ لَاَوَّاهٌ حَلِيْمٌ) 9. At-Tawbah:114)
