Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

38-1. Thus, a very large number of magicians were gathered from the surroundings of Egypt; their number is reported as 12,000, 17,000, 19,000, 30,000, and 80,000 (according to different narrations). The actual number is best known to Allah, because the number is not mentioned in any authentic source. The details of this have already been mentioned earlier in Surah Al-A'raf and Surah Ta-Ha. It is as if the people of Pharaoh, the Copts, wanted to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah intends to perfect His light. Thus, in the battle between disbelief and faith, it has always happened that whenever disbelief comes forth to confront faith, Allah grants faith honor and dominance. As He said, (بَلْ نَقْذِفُ بالْحَقِّ عَلَي الْبَاطِلِ فَيَدْمَغُهٗ فَاِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٌ) 21. Al-Anbiya:18) "Rather, We hurl the truth against falsehood, and it crushes its head, and behold, falsehood perishes at once."
