قَالَ أَلَمْ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدًا وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ ﴿18﴾
[Fir‘aun (Pharaoh)] said [to Mûsâ (Moses)]: "Did we not bring you up among us as a child? And you did dwell many years of your life with us.
قَالَ qāla He said
أَلَمْ alam Did not
نُرَبِّكَ nurabbika we bring you up
فِينَا fīnā among us
وَلِيدًۭا walīdan (as) a child
وَلَبِثْتَ walabith'ta and you remained
فِينَا fīnā among us
مِنْ min of
عُمُرِكَ ʿumurika your life
سِنِينَ sinīna years

18-1. Instead of considering the invitation and demand of Musa (عليه السلام), Pharaoh began to question him and said, "Are you not the one who was raised in our lap and in our house, while we used to kill the children of Bani Israel?"

18-2. Some say that he spent 18 years in Pharaoh's palace, according to others 30 years, and according to some, forty years—that is, after spending so many years with us, and then living here and there for a few years, now you have started claiming prophethood?
