Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
1. The people of ‘Ad were the strongest and most powerful nation in the world, about whom Allah said (الَّتِيْلَمْيُخْلَقْمِثْلُهَافِيالْبِلَادِ) (89. Al-Fajr: 8) "No nation like them was ever created," meaning none matched them in strength, might, and power. That is why they used to say (مَنْاَشَدُّمِنَّاقُوَّةً) (41. Fussilat: 15) "Who is stronger than us in power?" But when this nation also did not abandon the path of disbelief to adopt faith and piety, Allah sent a punishment upon them in the form of a violent wind, which was imposed on them for a full seven nights and eight days. The fierce wind would come, lift a person high into the air, and then hurl him headfirst onto the ground with force. This would cause his skull to burst and break, and their headless corpses would lie on the ground as if they were hollow trunks of date palms. They had built large, strong buildings in the mountains, ravines, and caves. They had dug deep wells for drinking water, and there were many gardens. But when Allah’s punishment came, nothing benefited them, and they were wiped off the face of the earth.
