سُوْرَةُ الْفُرْقَانِ

Surah Al-Furqaan (25) — Ayah 54

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ مِنَ ٱلْمَآءِ بَشَرًا فَجَعَلَهُۥ نَسَبًا وَصِهْرًا ۗ وَكَانَ رَبُّكَ قَدِيرًا ﴿54﴾
And it is He Who has created man from water, and has appointed for him kindred by blood, and kindred by marriage. And your Lord is Ever All-Powerful to do what He wills.
وَهُوَ wahuwa And He
ٱلَّذِى alladhī (is) the One Who
خَلَقَ khalaqa has created
مِنَ mina from
ٱلْمَآءِ l-māi the water
بَشَرًۭا basharan human being
فَجَعَلَهُۥ fajaʿalahu and has made (for) him
نَسَبًۭا nasaban blood relationship
وَصِهْرًۭا ۗ waṣih'ran and marriage relationship
وَكَانَ wakāna And is
رَبُّكَ rabbuka your Lord
قَدِيرًۭا qadīran All-Powerful

54-1. By lineage is meant the relationships that are from the father's or mother's side, and by "sihra" is meant the kinship that is established after marriage from the wife's side, which in our language is called in-law relationships. The details of both these relationships have been explained in verse (وَلَا تَنْكِحُوْا مَا نَكَحَ اٰبَاۗؤُكُمْ مِّنَ النِّسَاۗءِ اِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ ۭاِنَّهٗ كَانَ فَاحِشَةً وَّمَقْتًا ۭوَسَاۗءَ سَبِيْلًا 22؀ۧ حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ اُمَّھٰتُكُمْ وَبَنٰتُكُمْ وَاَخَوٰتُكُمْ وَعَمّٰتُكُمْ وَخٰلٰتُكُمْ وَبَنٰتُ الْاَخِ وَبَنٰتُ الْاُخْتِ وَاُمَّھٰتُكُمُ الّٰتِيْٓ اَرْضَعْنَكُمْ وَاَخَوٰتُكُمْ مِّنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ وَاُمَّھٰتُ نِسَاۗىِٕكُمْ وَرَبَاۗىِٕبُكُمُ الّٰتِيْ فِيْ حُجُوْرِكُمْ مِّنْ نِّسَاۗىِٕكُمُ الّٰتِيْ دَخَلْتُمْ بِهِنَّ ۡ فَاِنْ لَّمْ تَكُوْنُوْا دَخَلْتُمْ بِهِنَّ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۡ وَحَلَاۗىِٕلُ اَبْنَاۗىِٕكُمُ الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ اَصْلَابِكُمْ ۙ وَاَنْ تَجْمَعُوْا بَيْنَ الْاُخْتَيْنِ اِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ ۭاِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ غَفُوْرًا رَّحِـيْمًا 23؀ۙ) (4:22-23) . Foster relationships, according to hadith, are included among the lineage relationships. As it is stated: یحرم من الرضاع ما یحرم من النسب۔ البخاری ومسلم۔
