Thus they (false gods - all deities other than Allâh) will belie you (polytheists) regarding what you say (that they are gods besides Allâh): then you can neither avert (the punishment), nor get help. And whoever among you does wrong (i.e. sets up rivals to Allâh), We shall make him taste a great torment.
فَقَدْ faqad So verily
كَذَّبُوكُم kadhabūkum they deny you
بِمَا bimā in what
تَقُولُونَ taqūlūna you say
فَمَا famā so not

عَذَابًۭا ʿadhāban a punishment
كَبِيرًۭا kabīran great

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

19-1 This is the statement of Allah Almighty, who will address the polytheists and say that those whom you considered your deities have declared you to be liars in your claims, and you have seen that they have openly disassociated themselves from you. Thus, those whom you considered your helpers did not prove to be helpers. Now, do you have the power to avert My punishment from yourselves and help yourselves?
