سُوْرَةُ الْاَنْۣبِيَآءِ
Surah Al-Anbiyaa (21) — Ayah 44
بَلْ مَتَّعْنَا هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْعُمُرُ ۗ أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّا نَأْتِى ٱلْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَآ ۚ أَفَهُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ ﴿44﴾

Nay, We gave the luxuries of this life to these men and their fathers until the period grew long for them. See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? Is it then they who will overcome?

44. 1. That is, if their or their forefathers' lives have passed in luxury and comfort, do they think that they are on the right path? And that nothing will happen to them in the future as well? No, rather, the comfort of this short-lived life is only a part of Our principle of respite; no one should be deceived or deluded by it.
44. 2. That is, the land of disbelief is gradually shrinking and the dominion of Islam is expanding. The ground is slipping from under the feet of disbelief, and the dominance of Islam is increasing, and the Muslims are conquering territory after territory.
44. 3. That is, even after seeing disbelief shrinking and Islam expanding, do these disbelievers think that they are dominant? This is an interrogative of denial. That is, they are not dominant, but subdued; not victors, but vanquished; not honored and dignified, but humiliation and disgrace is their destiny.
