سُوْرَةُ الْاَنْۣبِيَآءِ

Surah Al-Anbiyaa (21) — Ayah 32

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ سَقْفًا مَّحْفُوظًا ۖ وَهُمْ عَنْ ءَايَـٰتِهَا مُعْرِضُونَ ﴿32﴾
And We have made the heaven a roof, safe and well guarded. Yet they turn away from its signs (i.e. sun, moon, winds, clouds, etc.).
وَجَعَلْنَا wajaʿalnā And We made
ٱلسَّمَآءَ l-samāa the sky
سَقْفًۭا saqfan a roof
مَّحْفُوظًۭا ۖ maḥfūẓan protected
وَهُمْ wahum But they
عَنْ ʿan from
ءَايَـٰتِهَا āyātihā its Signs
مُعْرِضُونَ muʿ'riḍūna turn away

32. 1. A protected canopy for the earth, just as a tent or dome has a roof, or in the sense that they have been prevented from falling upon the earth, otherwise if the heavens were to fall upon the earth, the entire system of the earth could be overturned. Or protected from the devils, as stated (وَحَفِظْنٰهَا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطٰنٍ رَّجِيْمٍ) 45. Al-Hijr:17)
