The Prophets · Meccan · Juz 17 · Page 324

And if any of them should say: "Verily, I am an ilâh (a god) besides Him (Allâh)," such a one We should recompense with Hell. Thus We recompense the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers).
۞ وَمَن waman And whoever
يَقُلْ yaqul says
مِنْهُمْ min'hum of them
إِنِّىٓ innī Indeed, I am
إِلَـٰهٌۭ ilāhun a god
مِّن min besides Him
دُونِهِۦ dūnihi besides Him
فَذَٰلِكَ fadhālika Then that
نَجْزِيهِ najzīhi We will recompense
جَهَنَّمَ ۚ jahannama (with) Hell
كَذَٰلِكَ kadhālika Thus
نَجْزِى najzī We recompense
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ l-ẓālimīna the wrongdoers

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

29. 1. That is, even if any of these angels were to claim to be Allah, We would also throw him into Hell. This is conditional speech, whose occurrence is not necessary. The purpose is to refute shirk and establish tawheed. Just as (قُلْ اِنْ كَان للرَّحْمٰنِ وَلَدٌ ڰ فَاَنَا اَوَّلُ الْعٰبِدِيْنَ) 43. Az-Zukhruf:81) 'If, hypothetically, the Most Merciful had a child, then I would be the first of the worshippers.' (لَىِٕنْ اَشْرَكْتَ لَيَحْبَطَنَّ عَمَلُكَ) 39. Az-Zumar:65) 'O Prophet! If you also commit shirk, then your deeds will be nullified.' All of these are conditional, whose occurrence is not necessary.
