يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يَشْفَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ ٱرْتَضَىٰ وَهُم مِّنْ خَشْيَتِهِۦ مُشْفِقُونَ ﴿28﴾
He knows what is before them, and what is behind them, and they cannot intercede except for him with whom He is pleased. And they stand in awe for fear of Him.
يَعْلَمُ yaʿlamu He knows
مَا what
بَيْنَ bayna (is) before them
أَيْدِيهِمْ aydīhim (is) before them
وَمَا wamā and what
خَلْفَهُمْ khalfahum (is) behind them
وَلَا walā and not
يَشْفَعُونَ yashfaʿūna they (can) intercede
إِلَّا illā except
لِمَنِ limani for whom
ٱرْتَضَىٰ ir'taḍā He approves
وَهُم wahum And they
مِّنْ min from
خَشْيَتِهِۦ khashyatihi fear of Him
مُشْفِقُونَ mush'fiqūna stand in awe

28. 1. From this it is understood that besides the Prophets and the righteous, the angels will also intercede. This is also supported by authentic hadith, but this intercession will only be for those whom Allah approves. And it is obvious that Allah will not approve intercession for His disobedient servants, but only for sinful yet obedient servants, that is, the people of faith and monotheism.
