Surah Al-Anbiyaa (21) — Ayah 15

فَمَا زَالَت تِّلْكَ دَعْوَىٰهُمْ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ حَصِيدًا خَـٰمِدِينَ ﴿15﴾
And that cry of theirs ceased not, till We made them as a field that is reaped, extinct (dead).
فَمَا famā Then not
زَالَت zālat ceased
تِّلْكَ til'ka [this]
دَعْوَىٰهُمْ daʿwāhum their cry
حَتَّىٰ ḥattā until
جَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ jaʿalnāhum We made them
حَصِيدًا ḥaṣīdan reaped
خَـٰمِدِينَ khāmidīna extinct

15. 1. That is, as long as signs of life remained within them, they continued to confess their wrongdoing.

15. 2. حَصِیْد refers to a harvested crop, and خُمُوْد refers to extinguished fire. That is, in the end, they became a pile of ashes—like a harvested crop and an extinguished fire—with no strength, energy, sensation, or movement left within them.
