وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱعْتَدَوْا۟ مِنكُمْ فِى ٱلسَّبْتِ فَقُلْنَا لَهُمْ كُونُوا۟ قِرَدَةً خَـٰسِـِٔينَ ﴿65﴾
And indeed you knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath (i.e. Saturday). We said to them: "Be you monkeys, despised and rejected."
وَلَقَدْ walaqad And indeed
عَلِمْتُمُ ʿalim'tumu you knew
ٱلَّذِينَ alladhīna those who
ٱعْتَدَوْا۟ iʿ'tadaw transgressed
مِنكُمْ minkum among you
فِى in
ٱلسَّبْتِ l-sabti the (matter of) Sabbath
فَقُلْنَا faqul'nā So We said
لَهُمْ lahum to them
كُونُوا۟ kūnū Be
قِرَدَةً qiradatan apes
خَـٰسِـِٔينَ khāsiīna despised

65. 1. On the day of Sabbath (Saturday), the Jews were forbidden from fishing or engaging in any worldly work, but they adopted a trick and transgressed the command of Allah. On the day of Sabbath (as a test), more fish would come; they dug pits so that the fish would remain trapped in them, and then on Sunday they would catch them.
